Message From Founder Charles Goldstein
Thank you very much for your interest in Lesotho Craft Works. This labor of love had its origins in my very first visit to Lesotho, shortly after I moved to Johannesburg, South Africa with my partner, Dr. Susan Black, Medical Director of Nkosi’s Haven, a pioneering long-term residence for destitute HIV-positive mothers and their children.
I was immediately struck by the generosity, creativity and great skills of the people I met in Lesotho--- skills they have cultivated despite tremendous poverty. When you purchase these treasures, you will be bringing the world’s prosperity to a nation that earned its independence in 1966, but has not yet begun to chart its own destiny. The revenues from your purchases allow the artists to assert their financial independence while improving the quality of life for their children, with sales helping to pay for health care and education. Your purchase creates a bridge between nations, and between people.
I am continuously inspired by the kindness and courage of the people I have met. Their grace under extraordinary circumstances is humbling and inspiring, and I am reminded of this each time I look at their wonderful work. I invite you to become a part of their lives, as I have had the great fortune to do.
We look forward to hearing from you and I encourage you to contact me directly: charlie@lesothocraftworks.com
Best Regards,
Charles Goldstein
